Wright’s stain is used for the differential staining of blood smears and bone marrow aspirates. Wrights stain powder consists of a compound stain formed by the combination of eosin with methylene blue and its homologs. The staining solution is formed by dissolving the compound stain in methanol and sometimes adding a buffer. Alternatively, the same staining results can be achieved by making a separate eosin solution, a separate polychrome methylene blue solution and using the stains sequentially. This greatly improves the reproducibility and shortens the stain time. The total time in the staining solutions is less than one minute. Wright’s dip stat # 2 (catalog number 302) is an eosin stain configured for use in this procedure and Wright’s dip stat # 3 (catalog number 303) is a polychrome methylene blue stain configured for use in this procedure. The 2 ounce jars are packaged in plastic containers that double as stain jars. Besides the two ounce size, these products are also available in eight ounce, sixteen ounce and 1 gallon plastic bottles. These items are manufactured in the United States by Medical Chemical Corp
