Formalin is available in four formulations and packaging configurations for histology, pathology, parasitology, and specialized laboratory procedures.

Formalin 1:10: Neutral buffered 1:10 formalin with approximately 4% w/v formaldehyde. It is used as a laboratory tissue fixative and is available in multiple bottle, bulk, bucket, cube, and prefilled specimen-container configurations.

Formalin 1:10 Vials: Neutral buffered formalin packaged in stool-collection vials for parasitology applications. Standard vials and child-resistant-cap configurations are available.

Formalin 1:10 Unbuffered: A 1:10 formalin solution without buffering for special laboratory procedures.

Formalin 1:10 Alcoholic Tissue Fixative: A 1:10 dilution of 37% formaldehyde with reagent alcohol. Because of the alcohol content, it is only lightly buffered.
